Climate Change is global but its impacts are not. Some of the most vulnerable to climate change are those who have contributed the least to it. Home-based workers (HBWs) are one such vulnerable group. This webinar will discuss impact of climate change on urban home-based workers (HBWs) in South Asia. A study supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) was conducted to assess the ‘Impact of Climate Change on Urban Home-Based Workers in South Asia’. It was carried out by HomeNet South Asia (HNSA) in partnership with Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), Saathi - Nepal, and Coalition for the Urban Poor - Bangladesh (CUP). The complexities of home-based work, combined with HBWs’ perception of climate change, the undeviating impact of climate change upon home-based work leaves HBWs extremely vulnerable. The inquiry focuses on studying perception and awareness regarding climate change among home-based workers, types of impact on home-based work, non-climate related stressors, and workable coping strategies. The webinar will highlight and discuss the various findings and recommendations which have come out in the latest study.
